host a brooch

Yesterday we had a few hours free in the afternoon to check out the Host a Brooch project running as part of the Christchurch Arts Festival.
The broochs are sculpted by the warm and friendly Jacqui Chan and made from the rubble and demolition materials that still litter the streets of Christchurch.
They are stunning and meaningful and have presence.
This was the brooch we chose to take for an adventure around the city for an hour.
It had been burnt flooring, now a delicate work of art.
Sky immediately found a brooch that she could wear too; found, worn and transformed.

We wandered and snapped photos.
We made beautiful pieces of jewellery from scraps of waste in our minds.
